Chamois are a challenging and very enjoyable species to hunt. Inhabiting some of the South Island’s most spectacular sub alpine areas, they favour sub alpine tussock basins and bush fringes all year round.
They have excellent eyesight and are an alert, and sometimes nervous, animal.
The Chamois Rut is mid-April to late-May. At this time the Bucks are in their impressive winter coats and are very active. As with the Tahr Hunt we can tailor the Chamois Hunt to suit your level of Fitness.
Chamois can be hunted year-round. For winter skins April through to the end of July is best.
