Hunting Fallow Buck is great fun! They inhabit the lower gentler hill country and, like Whitetail Deer, make the best of use of any available cover.
These hunts are generally Spot & Stalk, although sometimes during the Rut we will stake out a known Rutting Pad and wait from cover.
Fallow Buck are extremely attractive deer with their unique palmated antlers and a wide variety of colour phases (black, white, and menil (spotted) in several shades).
Hunting Fallow Buck during the Rut is extremely exciting and definitely worth experiencing. Rut is April-May. During this period bucks are extremely active and aggressive fighters and it’s not uncommon for Bucks to fight to the death.
Massive mature bucks that are not seen for most of the year will appear for a few weeks over the Rut to hold Does. The Fallow Deer inhibit the same areas we stalk Red Stag and can be hunted simultaneously.
